Meet Kona, UPPAbaby's new mid-size pram: full-size ride quality at 9.9 kg, ready from birth, in a footprint that clears a shop aisle.

Quick answer

Kona is for parents who want a proper pram without the bulk of one. It has a full-size seat and a 13.6 kg basket on a frame that is 53.3 cm wide, folds with one hand with the seat still on, and takes one child from birth to 22.7 kg.

It is available now for $1,049, in three colours. Orders ship from the first week of November.

Best for: city life with one child, with stairs, trams, small boots and busy shop aisles.

Not ideal for: families planning a second child, because Kona carries one. The Vista V3 is the pram for that. Also not the one to choose if the smallest possible fold matters most, because the Minu V3 folds smaller and weighs less.

Key strength: a full-size seat and basket on a slim, light frame.

Trade-off: at 9.9 kg it is 2.3 kg heavier than the Minu V3, in exchange for a bigger basket, a reversible seat and larger wheels.

Kona in four figures

  • 9.9 kg: the whole pram, with the seat on.
  • 53.3 cm: across, about the width of a shop aisle.
  • 22.7 kg: the child weight limit, from birth to about four years.
  • 13.6 kg: the basket, enough for the nappy bag and the shopping together. It is the same as a Vista V3, on a much smaller frame.

Fold it, carry it, go

Most compact prams get small by shrinking the seat. Kona keeps a full-size seat and finds the space in the footprint instead.

It folds with one hand, from standing, whichever way the seat is facing, and the seat stays attached. Once folded it stands up on its own, and a carry handle is built into the frame for the flight of stairs at the other end. Folded, it measures 34.0 x 53.3 x 65.5 cm, which sits between the Minu V3 and the Cruz V3. Measure your boot opening before you buy: the folded height is the dimension that usually decides whether a pram fits.

Ready from birth

The seat lies flat, so a newborn can go straight in as sold, with nothing extra to buy. If you would rather use the UPPAbaby bassinet or a Mesa capsule, both click straight onto the frame with no adapters.

The seat is reversible, so it faces you or faces out, and it has a one-hand recline with four positions.

The details you will use every day

  • Suspension and never-flat tyres. Sprung on every wheel, with front wheel locks for gravel and grass. There is nothing to pump up.
  • An extra-large basket. 13.6 kg, so the shopping does not have to go on the handlebar.
  • A UPF 50+ extendable canopy. It has a peek-a-boo window and ventilation, so you can check on your child without stopping.
  • An adjustable handlebar and footrest. A comfortable push at any height, and a footrest that moves through three positions as your child grows.
  • In the box. Kona comes with the bumper bar fitted, a toddler seat bug shield, a toddler seat rain shield and the three year warranty.

Kona, Minu V3 or Cruz V3?

Kona sits between the other two single prams. Choose the Minu V3 if the smallest fold and the lowest weight matter most. Choose the Cruz V3 if you want the larger frame. Choose Kona if you want a full-size seat and basket in something you can carry up the stairs.

How heavy is Kona?

9.9 kg with the seat on.

13.6 kg, which is the same as a Vista V3.
