Bassinets

Bassinets for the first months: the UPPAbaby V3 pram bassinet, which lifts off the Vista, Cruz, Kona or Ridge with the baby still asleep inside, and the Soma smart bassinet for the nursery, which senses a stirring baby and settles...

Pram bassinet, smart bassinet or both?

For the pram. A newborn needs to lie flat, and a pram bassinet is the only way to do that on the move. The V3 bassinet is included in the box with every Vista V3, and it fits the Cruz V3 and Kona directly and the Ridge V2 with a pair of adapters. It has a ventilated base, a canopy with an extending sun visor, a bug shield and a zip-off cover, and it is suitable from birth until your baby can push up on their hands and knees, which for most is somewhere around four to six months. It is not a Minu accessory: the Minu V3 and Minu Duo are from birth as sold, with the seat laid flat.

For your room. The Soma smart bassinet is a standalone bassinet that does the settling. A breathable mesh mattress, mesh on all four sides, a motion system that starts gently when the baby stirs, and an app to set the routine. It stands on its own and does not attach to a bed: a separate sleep surface in the same room as you for the first six months, which is what Red Nose recommends, for parents who want to sleep through the small wakes.

Both. Most Vista families end up with both: the pram bassinet for the day and the cot or bassinet for the night. Overnight sleep in a pram bassinet is not recommended by Australian safe sleep guidance, so the V3 bassinet is for naps on the go, not for the night.

Which bassinet fits which pram?

Vista V3: included in the box. Cruz V3: fits directly, sold separately. Ridge V2: fits with the Ridge Mesa and bassinet adapters. Kona: fits directly. Minu V3 and Minu Duo: no bassinet, both prams lie flat from birth as sold. A second V3 bassinet on a Vista carries twins, one above the other, with the lower adapters.

How to choose

What safe sleep guidance asks for, when a smart bassinet earns its price over a standard one, and how long a bassinet lasts before the cot: our bassinet guide. For the pram side, the newborn pram guide covers bassinet, lie-flat seat or capsule, and when to make the switch. Runout colours of the V3 bassinet are $199 while they last; current colours are $449.

Every UPPAbaby bassinet sold in Australia carries a three year warranty, and delivery is free over $99.
