Three things that decide it.
ISOFIX, or your seatbelt
The base installs with ISOFIX anchor connectors or the car's own seatbelt, and a built-in lock-off pulls the belt tight. Two ways to get the same firm fit, so it works in the car you already have.
Car to pram, without waking them
One press of the release button lifts the capsule off the base and onto a Vista or Cruz frame directly. The baby stays buckled, and asleep.

Which pram it fits
The Mesa clicks onto a Vista, Cruz or Kona frame with no adapters, so a sleeping baby goes from the car to the pram without being unbuckled. The smaller frames take it with an adapter.

Only the Vista V3, Cruz V3, Ridge V2 and Kona take a capsule from another brand, and only these models: Maxi-Cosi Mico AP / Mico Plus, Maxi-Cosi Citi, Maxi-Cosi Mico 12 and Mico 12LX (made after 20 April 2022), Nuna PIPA, Nuna KLIK Plus, Joie i-Gemm, Britax B-Pod, Britax B-Pod Lite. No Minu takes a third-party capsule, and CYBEX capsules are not supported on any UPPAbaby frame.

Keeping it clean
The seat covers are removable, so the fabric a newborn sleeps against can be washed rather than wiped. The product manual sets out the wash instructions.

Straight onto the frame
No adapter on a Vista or a Cruz. The capsule drops on, locks, and the baby stays buckled the whole time.
Carried like a basket
The handle is balanced for carrying it any distance, not just from the boot to the door.
Two colourways
Greyson in charcoal melange and James in charcoal. Both take the same base and the same adapters.
The base stays in the car
One base per car, sold separately. It installs with ISOFIX or the seatbelt and does not come out between trips.

Before you decide
Is the Mesa certified for the Australian market?
Yes. The Mesa sold here is UPPAbaby's first infant car seat designed, tested and certified for Australia, rather than a seat brought in from another market.
What age or weight does it suit?
From birth to 15 kg, which is roughly twelve months depending on your child. It is low birthweight tested and includes a custom-fit infant insert, so it suits a premature or small newborn as well as a full-term one.
Can I install it with ISOFIX or a seatbelt?
Either. The base installs using ISOFIX connectors or your car's seatbelt, and the built-in lock-off pulls the belt tight so the base does not move. Every step is filmed on the how-to videos page.
Which prams does it fit?
It clicks straight onto a Vista, Cruz or Kona frame with no adapters. The Minu V3 and Minu Duo take it with their own adapter, sold separately. The finder above answers it for your exact pram and capsule.
Do I need the base as well?
The base is sold separately and stays in the car, so the capsule clicks in and out without rethreading a seatbelt. One base per car: families who move the capsule between two cars usually buy a second.
Are the fabrics safe, and can I wash them?
The fabrics are DualTech and completely free of fire-retardant chemicals. The covers are removable, so the thing your newborn sleeps against can actually be cleaned.
Can I take it on a plane?
Yes. The Mesa is CASA approved for use on Australian aircraft. Check with your airline about fitting it in your seat class before you fly.
What happens if the car is in an accident?
A capsule that has been in a crash should be replaced, not reused. Our Crash Exchange Program covers that, and the page sets out what to send us.
What warranty does it carry?
A Product Lifetime Warranty when bought from an authorised Australian seller, covering everything from the fabrics to the shell. That is longer than the three-year cover on the prams.
