Choosing

A second child

Most people choose a first pram before they know whether there will be a second. This page sets out the three ways through and what each one actually costs.

Planning ahead

A second child, three ways.

Most people choose a first pram before they know whether there will be a second. These are the three ways through, with what each one actually costs.

One frame, converted

Buy the frame that takes the second child

  • Vista V3, bassinet includednow $1,799
  • RumbleSeat V3when the second arrives $399
  • Vista upper adapter, required in double modewith the RumbleSeat $59.95

Total$2,257.95

One pram, one fold, one thing in the boot. Both children lie flat from birth, and a third can stand on a PiggyBack board later without changing anything else.

A double from the start

Buy one pram built for two

  • Minu Duo, from birth for bothnow $1,299

Total$1,299

Two children side by side from birth, and still narrow enough for a standard doorway. The least expensive way to push two. It does not take a third child, and it is a stroller rather than a full-size pram.

Buy again later

Buy a single now and a second pram later

  • Cruz V3, a full-size singlenow $1,299
  • Minu V3, the cheapest second pramlater $749

Total$2,048

The route most people assume is thrifty. It is not: it costs more than a pram built for two, and it does not solve the problem, because one adult cannot push two prams. For both children out together you still need a double or a frame that converts.

Buying twice is not the cheap way through. A pram built for two costs less than it, and buying twice is the only one of the three that leaves you unable to take both children out on your own. A frame that does not convert does not save you money. It moves the cost to the day you need a double.

The two-children questions

Can I add a RumbleSeat later, or do I have to buy it now?

Later. The Vista frame is the same frame either way, so the RumbleSeat and the upper adapter can be bought the week you need them rather than years early.

What is the upper adapter for?

It raises the top seat to give the two children the clearance they need, and it is required in double mode. The RumbleSeat's own mounting adapters come in its box; the upper adapter is a separate part.

Which is best for two under two?

The Vista V3. The newborn lies flat in the bassinet on the lower position and the toddler sits above, so both are properly supported. The Minu Duo also takes two from birth side by side, and is narrower and less expensive.

Can one pram carry three children?

The Vista can: two seated, and a third standing on a PiggyBack board that clips to the rear axle. Nothing else in the range takes three.
